How Notifications Work
Notifications keep you informed about activity that matters to you — task assignments, comments, mentions, and status changes — without requiring you to constantly check every item manually.
Types of notifications
Varai Sprints delivers notifications in two ways:
| Channel | Description |
|---|---|
| In-app | Appear as a numbered badge on the bell icon (🔔) in the top navigation bar |
| Delivered to your registered email address |
Both channels cover the same events. You can configure which events trigger which channel in your profile settings.
Events that trigger notifications
| Event | Who is notified |
|---|---|
| Assigned to a task or issue | The newly assigned person |
| Unassigned from a task or issue | The person who was removed |
| @mentioned in a comment | The mentioned person |
| Comment added | Task/issue creator and all assignees |
| Task/issue status changed | Task/issue creator and all assignees (off by default) |
| Sprint started | All workspace members (off by default) |
| Sprint completed | All workspace members (off by default) |
| Timer running for 4+ hours | The person whose timer is running |
| Export ready | The person who requested the export |
Events marked "off by default" can be turned on in your notification preferences. See Managing notifications.
The notification center
Click the bell icon (🔔) in the top navigation bar to open the notification dropdown.
The dropdown shows your most recent notifications with:
- Icon indicating the type of event (task assigned, comment, mention, etc.)
- Brief description of what happened (e.g., "Alice assigned you to: Fix login button")
- Item link — click the notification to go directly to the relevant task, issue, or sprint
- Timestamp — how long ago the notification was created
A red badge on the bell shows the count of unread notifications.
Notification grouping
To avoid inbox overload, similar notifications are grouped:
- If 5 people comment on the same task, you see one grouped notification: "5 new comments on: Implement login page"
- If 3 tasks are assigned to you at once, they are grouped: "You were assigned to 3 tasks"
Click a grouped notification to see the individual items.
Email notifications
Email notifications are sent to the address registered in your account. Each email includes:
- What happened (e.g., "You were assigned to a task")
- The item name and a direct link
- A footer link to manage your notification preferences
Instead of receiving individual emails for every event, you can switch to a daily digest that bundles all notifications from the day into one email. Configure this in your profile notification settings.
