How Notifications Work

Notifications keep you informed about activity that matters to you — task assignments, comments, mentions, and status changes — without requiring you to constantly check every item manually.

Types of notifications

Varai Sprints delivers notifications in two ways:

ChannelDescription
In-appAppear as a numbered badge on the bell icon (🔔) in the top navigation bar
EmailDelivered to your registered email address

Both channels cover the same events. You can configure which events trigger which channel in your profile settings.

Events marked "off by default" can be turned on in your notification preferences. See Managing notifications.

The notification center

Click the bell icon (🔔) in the top navigation bar to open the notification dropdown.

The dropdown shows your most recent notifications with:

  • Icon indicating the type of event (task assigned, comment, mention, etc.)
  • Brief description of what happened (e.g., "Alice assigned you to: Fix login button")
  • Item link — click the notification to go directly to the relevant task, issue, or sprint
  • Timestamp — how long ago the notification was created

A red badge on the bell shows the count of unread notifications.

Notification grouping

To avoid inbox overload, similar notifications are grouped:

  • If 5 people comment on the same task, you see one grouped notification: "5 new comments on: Implement login page"
  • If 3 tasks are assigned to you at once, they are grouped: "You were assigned to 3 tasks"

Click a grouped notification to see the individual items.

Email notifications

Email notifications are sent to the address registered in your account. Each email includes:

  • What happened (e.g., "You were assigned to a task")
  • The item name and a direct link
  • A footer link to manage your notification preferences
Email digest

Instead of receiving individual emails for every event, you can switch to a daily digest that bundles all notifications from the day into one email. Configure this in your profile notification settings.
